How to Stop Flies Coming in Through Bifold Doors?

There is a long-standing assumption in the aluminium sliding door market. That is, you want truly minimal sightlines, you commit to a bonded glass system. The glass is structurally bonded to the frame, the sightlines are exceptional, and the aesthetic is as clean as it gets. However, bonded systems come with trade-offs, and not everyone wants them.
Our latest Aspect Sliding Door changes that assumption. We are proud to have designed the UK's slimmest beaded aluminium sliding door, and it arrives with an outstanding 15mm interlock. This is a figure, that until now, you simply could not achieve in a beaded system.
To the trade, a beaded window or door needs little explanation.
For our homeowner customers, beaded doors mean that the glass is held in place with (aluminium, uPVC or timber) glazing beads typically on the inside but also on the outside.
In a bonded sliding door, the glass is adhered directly to the aluminium frame using structural silicone. The bonded glass becomes part of the overall structural design of the door, helping create exceptionally slim sightlines while maintaining rigidity.
With bonded products the manufacturer supplies the glass and the complete product. With beaded products your chosen installer is free to choose the glass for which we provide the sizes and the correct specification.
Any of our sliding doors promise a seamless, near-frameless appearance. Our own GS15, GS20, and GS25 systems work this way, and they remain some of the most popular sliding doors we make.
Aspect as a beaded system takes a different approach. The glass unit sits within the frame and is held in place by aluminium glazing beads. The glass can be measured, ordered, and fitted on site. It can be replaced if needed without specialist equipment or structural adhesive.
For most homeowners, the difference between bonded and beaded construction is largely invisible in day-to-day use. What matters is the finished appearance, how the doors operate, and how much glass they provide. Aspect delivers the same contemporary aesthetic expected from a modern slimline sliding door while offering installers a different approach to manufacturing, glazing and future maintenance.
For installers, the distinction is significant. Beaded systems are easier to handle, more straightforward to glaze, and less reliant on factory-fitted glass. You source the glass separately to the frame, which suits the way many fabricators and installers prefer to work.
The Aspect is designed to give both homeowners and our installer trade customers the same result. That is, a minimal, high-performance sliding door that is beautifully made and does not make unnecessary compromises.

The Aspect is available with two interlock profiles, 15mm and 25mm. Understanding the difference matters when specifying for a project.
The 15mm interlock is the headline figure. It is, to our knowledge, the slimmest sightline available in a beaded sliding door system manufactured in the UK.
Using the 15mm profile, maximum sash dimensions are 2,200mm wide by 2,500mm high, with a maximum sash weight of 280kg. For standard residential openings, such as a rear extension, a garden room, a kitchen-to-garden connection, the 15mm interlock covers the vast majority of projects.
The 25mm interlock exists because physics has a say. Larger sashes carry more glass, more weight, and face greater wind loads. As panel sizes increase, so does the structural demand placed on the frame. The 25mm profile handles sashes up to 2,500mm wide and 2,800mm high, with the same 280kg weight limit. If you are specifying for a wide or tall opening, or a site with significant wind exposure, the 25mm gives you the structural margin to do it properly.
From an aesthetic standpoint, the difference is minimal. Both profiles deliver a clean architectural sightline. The decision is driven by engineering, not preference.
Slim does not mean a compromise on thermal or acoustic performance. The Aspect achieves a Uw value from 1.3 W/m²K with double glazing and 1.0 W/m²K or better with triple glazing. Acoustic insulation reaches up to Rw 39 dB, depending on the glass specification. This is a meaningful figure for properties near roads, railways, schools or other local noise sources.
The system is rated Class 7A for water tightness and Class C5 for wind resistance, and it has passed PAS 24 security testing. Air permeability is rated Class 3 or 4 depending on the configuration specified.
These are not marketing numbers. They reflect tested performance across a system designed for the UK climate. Your new sliding doors protect your home from driving rain, variable wind loads, and a new build rules system that increasingly demands better thermal efficiency as standard.
For glazing, the Aspect accepts units up to 36mm, accommodating both standard double-glazed units and high-specification triple glazing. We supply the doors unglazed, so the glass is sourced and specified separately by your installer, giving them complete control over the glazing unit itself and often that means lower prices as well.
The Aspect sliding doors collection starts from a single mono panel, sliding behind a fixed pane, or both leaves opening. You can also have triple and even quadruple tracks, supporting between one and eight panels depending on the opening.
Standard configurations include 2-pane, 3-pane, and 4-pane layouts, as well as pocket configurations where panels slide into a concealed cavity rather than stacking in front of the wall.
Panels stack flush in a neat, aligned line, a feature only we've had as standard for years already. Flush stacking looks great when the doors are fully opened.
Integrated drainage is built into the track, enabling flush threshold installations without sacrificing weather performance. Adjustable wheels offer ±4mm tolerance, which matters on site when floors are not perfectly level and small adjustments are needed to achieve smooth operation. This is especially important across larger openings, which are harder for builders to keep dimensions consistent across.
The beaded glazing system means glass can also be retrofitted with glazing beads where required. This is useful should you change your mind after the doors have been installed, or in the future. For example once you are settled in your new home or extension, you may prefer solar control, enhanced security or the glass has been damaged and needs replacement.
The Aspect is available in over 150 RAL powder coat finishes, with standard colours including Anthracite Grey 7016M, Jet Black 9005M, and White 9016G.
Textured finishes, split interior/exterior colours, wood-effect powder coating, and anodised aluminium are all available — giving specifiers the flexibility to match the frame to the project rather than the other way around.
Two handle options are available: the Aspect Flush Handle and the Aspect Flip Handle.
The flush handle sits recessed within the frame profile, maintaining the clean sightline aesthetic without any projection into the room. It is available in all standard colours and any RAL finish to match the frame.
The flush handle also supports the Aspect's integrated ventilation function which we know you'll love. Here's how it works:
A half-turn of the handle places the door in a secured ventilation mode, allowing fresh air to circulate while the sash remains locked in position.
A full 180° rotation releases the sash for normal operation.
The flip handle takes a different approach. Its low-projection pivoting mechanism folds flat against the frame when not in use, keeping the profile minimal while offering a slightly more tactile grip. Like the flush handle, it is available across all standard and custom RAL colours.
Flush trickle vents are also available, built discreetly into the sash profile to provide continuous background ventilation without interrupting Aspect's clean lines. They sit completely flush to the frame. No visible head extension, no visible protrusion, no compromise to the impressive sightlines.
The Aspect is not a replacement for our bonded glass range. The GS15, GS20, and GS25 remain in production, remain popular, and remain the right specification for projects where the absolute maximum in glass area and minimal frame is the priority.
The Aspect addresses a different brief. It suits projects where an installer wants to source and fit their own glass or where smaller installers don't have the machinery or vehicle sizes to handle glazed doors.
It suits homeowners who want a genuinely architectural sliding door without the lead times or handling constraints of a factory-glazed bonded system. This is useful for example if you live in a mid-terrace and the door has to come through the house.
Aspect also suits openings where the slim aesthetic is essential but the project does not demand the ultra-minimal tolerances of a bonded frame.
It is also, in our view, a door that makes the installer's job easier. Arriving unglazed, it is lighter to handle, simpler to transport, and compatible with standard on-site glazing practice. The beaded system means glass replacement, should it ever be required, is a straightforward task rather than a factory return.
Aspect is manufactured at our expanding Great Yarmouth facility using the latest CNC and automated machining technology, ensuring every component is produced with exceptional consistency and accuracy. We have also tested the product in the UK, holding UKCA and CE marking, with BS EN 14351 compliance. It is available on our standard lead times and supported by our full technical team.
The Aspect is available to order through your Glideline account. It is supplied unglazed as standard, and full glazing thickness guidance is available for both 15mm and 25mm interlock variants. With recommended glass thicknesses ranging from 6mm to 10mm toughened depending on panel size. Technical drawings, DWG files, and installation documentation are available on request.
If you are specifying for a project that needs slim sightlines, a beaded system, and confidence in UK-manufactured performance, the Aspect product page has the full specification. Or get in touch with the Glideline team to discuss your project.
What is the difference between a bonded and beaded sliding door?
In a bonded system, the glass is structurally adhered to the frame with silicone, creating the slimmest possible sightlines. In a beaded system, the glass is held in place by aluminium glazing beads and can be fitted, replaced or upgraded on site without specialist equipment.
The Aspect is a beaded system that achieves sightlines previously only associated with bonded construction.
How slim is the Aspect interlock?
The Aspect is available with a 15mm or 25mm interlock. The 15mm option is, to our knowledge, the slimmest beaded sliding door interlock currently manufactured in the UK.
Why are there two interlock options?
The 15mm interlock covers most standard residential openings. The 25mm interlock is designed for larger panels or sites with greater wind exposure, where additional structural depth is required.
The choice is driven by engineering requirements rather than aesthetics.
Is the Aspect supplied with glass?
No. The Aspect is supplied unglazed.
The glass is sourced and specified by your installer, giving complete control over the glazing specification while remaining compatible with standard on-site glazing practices.
What U-value does the Aspect achieve?
The Aspect achieves U-values from 1.3 W/m²K with double glazing and 1.0 W/m²K or better with triple glazing.
Actual performance depends on the glass specification selected for the project.
Is the Aspect secure?
Yes. The Aspect has passed PAS 24 security testing on the complete door assembly, meeting the UK's enhanced security standard for residential doors.
Can the glass be replaced if damaged?
Yes. Because the Aspect uses a beaded glazing system, the glass can be removed and replaced on site without returning the door to the factory.
This is one of the practical advantages of a beaded system compared with bonded construction.
How does the Aspect compare to the Glideline GS15?
The GS15 is a bonded sliding door, while the Aspect is a beaded sliding door.
Both offer a 15mm interlock sightline. The GS15 delivers the maximum possible glass area with bonded construction, while the Aspect provides the practical advantages of beaded glazing, including easier installation, on-site glass replacement, and compatibility with standard installer working methods.
What configurations are available?
The Aspect range starts from a single mono panel and extends to quad-track configurations supporting between one and eight panels.
Standard sliding, pocket sliding, and flush stacking configurations are all available.
Can the Aspect be triple glazed?
Yes. The system accepts glazing units up to 36mm thick, allowing both high-performance double glazing and triple glazing, depending on the project requirements.
Is the Aspect suitable for pocket sliding door designs?
Yes. The Aspect can be specified as a pocket sliding door, allowing the panels to disappear completely into a prepared wall cavity and creating a virtually unobstructed opening when fully open.
Can I have a flush threshold?
Yes. The Aspect features integrated drainage and can be specified with a flush threshold design, helping create a seamless transition between inside and outside while maintaining weather performance.
Is the Aspect available in dual colours?
Yes. The Aspect is available in over 150 RAL colours, including dual-colour options with different finishes internally and externally, as well as textured, anodised, and wood-effect finishes.
Who is the Aspect designed for?
The Aspect is designed for homeowners seeking slim sightlines and contemporary aesthetics, as well as trade installers looking for a high-performance sliding door that can be glazed on site and maintained using standard industry practices.
