How to Arrange a Room With Sliding Doors

If you have recently had some sleek sliding doors installed, or are looking to refresh your existing space to make the most of your sliding doors, we have some ideas for how you can arrange your room. Have a read below!

If you’re lucky enough to have a stunning view from your sliding doors, be it a large garden, an abundance of trees or a wide field, you may wish to draw attention to them and use your sliding doors as a focal point. If your sliding doors span the whole wall from ceiling to floor, you may decide to minimise the amount of décor, creating a minimalistic open space that emphasises the panoramic view of your surroundings. If you enjoy having a sit down with a cuppa and a good book, you can place a couple of sofas or a loveseat in strategic locations nearby to accentuate the aesthetics. Why not try facing these towards your sliding doors or at right angles so you can relax and take in those beautiful views? To increase tranquility further, it may be advisable to move TV screens into a separate room, where noise and glare can be reduced. If space is on your side, then a coffee table can be a useful addition to your room. Just make sure that there is enough space between the furniture that you don’t constantly bump into it! For a totally contemporary approach, a simple plant or painting on a wall nearby is all you need. If you have a large space that seems a little empty, you can make it more homely by adding a large soft rug or two with a pop of colour.

Some rooms can actually benefit from having two focal points; you may decide to draw attention to both the sliding door and a fireplace, for example. A good way of highlighting these is to arrange your seating in a way that makes both points visible. If the view from your sliding doors is not very impressive, you could choose to hang a gauze curtain over it, where the outdoors can be obscured but light can still pass through. Of course, you will also want a different room arrangement that doesn’t draw complete attention to these doors! In this instance, try positioning furniture towards a different focal point, for example a TV or large bookcase.
