How To Clean Aluminium Windows

How To Clean Aluminium Windows

How often should you clean your windows?

As a general guide, cleaning the glass every month and cleaning the frames every two months will keep them looking in great condition and free from dirt.

Points to consider when cleaning aluminium windows

With powder coated windows, they are designed to need little maintenance with less cleaning, keeping the frames from scratches and corrosion. As this is a strong finish to aluminium windows, it is important to not use any chemical products or techniques that will compromise with the finish. Using products such as bleach are harsh cleaning products that risk damage, it is best to keep it nice and simple.

Cleaning Aluminium Frames

When cleaning from the inside, you should:

  • Wipe the frames with a sponge or a soft cloth soaked in warm water and a mild detergent. This should sufficiently clean your frames without damaging the finish.
  • Gently wipe down the frames without scrubbing too harshly. Trying ink rubber for stubborn stains can be a better option.
  • Dry the frames with a soft cloth. This is important to get that clean, fresh finish.

When cleaning from the outside, you should:

  • Hose down the frames with water to remove any dirt sticking to the frames.
  • Scrub the frames with a sponge using a mild detergent solution to remove any dirt.
  • Wipe down the frames with a damp cloth, this is an important step to ensure dirty water doesn’t drip down and dry causing a stain.
  • Hose down the frames to give them a rinse.

Cleaning The Glass

When cleaning the glass on your aluminium windows, you should:

  • Spray your glass with a multipurpose cleaner or a designated glass cleaning spray. Using a multipurpose cloth or sponge, wipe across the glass from each side, top to bottom.
  • There may still be streaks on the windows, using a squeegee to remove them is useful working from left to right or vice versa.
  • Residue can build up in the corners on the glass. To remove this, using cotton buds with some cleaner on can wipe this away efficiently.

Following the cleaning options for your aluminium windows will help the longevity of them. Taking care of its properties and cleaning frequently is essential to ensure they provide maximum performance, as well as keeping a clean, stunning profile.
