The UK’s only casement window with a fully concealed handle

We have launched a new Glideline GW80 casement window with a fully concealed handle. Contemporary, slim, safe and secure, the new GW80 uses the same hidden handle as our GT70 tilt and turn window.  The GW80 window is available as top hung and side hung, and no other outward opening window in the UK offers comes with a hidden handle option.

Why we designed the GW80 casement window

As market trends move towards more glass and less visible frame, many other brands concentrate only on providing maximum glass to doors.  With windows also being important in renovation or building projects, our focus is providing windows and doors promising, more glass and less visible hardware.  Introducing the latest contemporary window, the GW80.

The recessed handle

The handle sits in a recess machined into the sash. Closed, the lever folds flat into its pocket and sits behind the face of the frame. Nothing stands proud. Nothing catches a blind, a curtain or a reveal. To open the window you lift the lever out, turn it and push.

Our tilt and turn window is a big seller at Glideline, with its invisible sash and hidden handle.  But tilt and turn functionality with inward opening sashes do not suit every project.

Outward opening top hung and side hung casements remain the default across most UK housing, on replacement work and new build alike.

Our research shows we are presently the only company in the UK offering an outward opening casement window with no visible hardware.

From outside, the window shares a similar hidden sash aesthetic as our tilt and turn windows, looking more like a slim picture window.  The same aesthetic extends to the inside of the home where all you see is a slimline sash. 

Look closer and you’ll see a slim vertical recess, housing the hidden handle.

Looks like a minimal picture window

On a contemporary elevation, a conventional casement handle is usually the only visible hardware on a closed window and often visible from the outside as well.

We’ve cleverly concealed the most prominent part of an outward opening window.  Remove it and any window looks more like a minimal picture window without the bulk of a classically styled opening casement.

And where your project comprises both casement windows and tilt and turn, a Glideline-manufactured window now provides matching hardware. We were being asked to solve that on projects often enough that we developed the product.

A project can now run tilt and turn where it suits the room and casements where it suits the elevation, and the hardware detail stays identical throughout.

Top hung and side hung

Top hung suits wide openings, first floor bedrooms and any position where a swinging sash would cross a path or a terrace. Side hung suits taller openings and situations where an escape opening is required, such as first floor windows.

Both can be combined with fixed lights, transoms and mullions in a single screen.

Shaped and gable units can be built into the same screen where the roofline calls for it, with no change in sightline or finish.

Our own profiles, cut from our own dies

The GW80 is 80mm front to back, and the main profiles are Glideline-specific.

We did not adapt an existing system to take the handle. We produced the profiles from our own custom dies, developed specifically for this window, because of the way the concealed handle works and the way we wanted the sash and frame to come together. No off-the-shelf profile would give us both.

That is the reason this window exists and nobody else’s does. The tooling is ours as well.

Within the system we use selected Cortizo hardware, particularly the components associated with locking and security and to keep commonality withing our other products which are based on the Cortizo system.

We fabricate every window in-house at Great Yarmouth, as we do with every product we supply. That gives us control over tolerances, finish quality and lead times, and it means the window arrives on site matching the doors it was ordered with.

Finishes cover the full RAL range in powder coat, plus textured, anodised and woodgrain options, and dual colour where the inside and outside need to differ. 

Thermal performance

The profiles carry 32mm thermal breaks.  With a standard high-performance double-glazed unit at a centre pane U-value of 1.0 W/m²K, the complete window calculates at approximately 1.2 W/m²K. 

We are also now supplying Ecothin, a new thin high-performance glass. With the 0.7 W/m²K centre pane version, the complete window calculates at approximately 1.0 W/m²K.

Both performacne figures are excellent for an aluminium window and these performance fitures work within Building Regulations for both new build and replacement window projects.

Thinner Windows, Lower U-Values, Beautiful Styling

Maximum glazing thickness on the GW80 is 28mm.  You may wonder why we don’t mention triple glazing.  Glass technology is improving quickly.

We can now get genuine thermal performance out of relatively thin double-glazed units, which means we can keep developing slimmer window systems. Other window brands rely of thicker polyamide thermal breaks, slimmer aluminium and pushing pushing the frame and glazing thickness back up to reach the required U-Values.

For you, this means slimmer glass is providing the energy-efficency you need, where before, more frame was needed. We think this is the best balance of sightlines and performance, not to mention the windows look beautiful inside and out.

Security

The GW80 has multipoint locking, with keeps and anti-jemmy blocks of the type used in PAS 24 specification systems and we continue to provide the best products for security, giving you peace of mind. 

How GW80 works with the rest of the Glideline range

The whole argument for GS15 and GS20 sliding doors is the removal of visible frame. GS15 gives you a 15mm interlock, the slimmest in the UK. GS20 gives you 20mm and 94% glass.  

Now you can specify equally appealing minimalist windows with no visible hardware and the choice of a casement or tilt and turn. 

The same applies across the rest of the range. GS25 for the largest openings, the GSP pocket door where panels need to disappear into the structure, the GB49 bifold and the GPD80 pivot door. All manufactured by us, all colour matched, all on one order and one delivery.
